(TOWNSHIP OF SOUTHGATE, ON) – On September 17, 2016 just before 1:00 a.m., Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a fatal single motor vehicle collision involving an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) on Southgate Sideroad 47, in the Township of Southgate.
Initial investigation revealed that an Arctic Cat 500cc ATV was being operated northbound on Southgate Sideroad 47 south of Southgate Rd. 10. The ATV left the roadway, entered the east ditch and collided into a tree. The lone driver was ejected. He was not wearing a helmet. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by the attending Coroner.
The deceased has been identified as 33-year old Thomas HUGHES of Kitchener, ON.
The OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigative Unit (TTCI) attended to assist with the investigation.
Grey County EMS and the Mount Forest Fire Department assisted at the scene.
