(EAST ZORRA-TAVISTOCK TOWNSHIP, ON.) – On December 15, 2015 shortly before 4:45 p.m., Oxford County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a small explosion and fire at the business of Yantzi’s Feed & Seed Ltd., on Woodstock Street North in Tavistock.
The East Zorra–Tavistock Township Fire Department (Tavistock and Hickson), responded to the scene, and advised that the working sprinkler system at the business had quickly extinguished the fire.
One adult male employee was seriously injured but his injuries are not considered life threatening. Two other male employees also received minor injuries. All three were transported to an area hospital. Several other employees evacuated the building without injury.
Woodstock Street North was closed for over an hour to assist the fire department. All area roads have since been re-opened. The Ministry of Labour was contacted but did not attend the scene. The Ontario Fire Marshal was contacted and will be attending the scene.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
