(HOPE TWP, ON) – Early this morning an officer from Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was conducting radar enforcement along Highway 401 in the Port Hope area. The officer observed an eastbound car travelling at a high rate of speed. The vehicle was measured at speeds up to 175 km/h.
A 48 year old man from Scarborough was charged under the Stunt Driving legislation for excessive speeding. His vehicle was impounded for 7 days and his driver’s licence suspended for the same period of time.
Upon conviction, a driver faces a $2,000 to $10,000 fine, 6 demerit points, up to 6 months jail, and up to 2 years licence suspension for a first conviction.
The OPP would like to remind the public that speeding increases the likelihood of being involved in a collision.
