(SERPENT RIVER FIRST NATION, ON) – On November 18, 2016, members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on regular patrol duties on Highway 17, in the Territory of Serpent River First Nation.
Shortly before 1:00 p.m., police observed a westbound vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed. A traffic stop was initiated. Investigation revealed the driver had unauthorized plates and no validated permit.
As a result, Randy YEBOAH, 17 years of age, from Etobicoke, Ontario, was charged with:
Use Plates Not Authorized for Vehicle, contrary to section 12(1)(d) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA);
Drive Motor Vehicle, No Currently Validated Permit, contrary to section 7(1)(a) of the HTA;
Fail to Apply for Permit on Becoming Owner, contrary to section 11(2) of the HTA; and
Race a Motor Vehicle- Excessive Speeding, contrary to section 172(1) of the HTA.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on January 18, 2017.
DRIVER CHARGED – NO INSURANCE
(BLIND RIVER, ON) – On November 19, 2016, members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on regular patrol duties on Causley Street in the Town of Blind River.
Shortly after 10:00 a.m., police observed an eastbound vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed. A traffic stop was initiated. Investigation determined the vehicle was not insured.
As a result, Mohamed GABR, 32 years of age, from Calgary, Alberta, was charged with:
• Speeding, contrary to section 128 of the Highway Traffic Act; and
• Owner Operate Motor Vehicle on a Highway-No Insurance, contrary to section 2(1) of the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on January 18, 2017.
