Drunk Driving Babysitter Followup

Dear Editor:

Michelle Morrision pleaded guilty to drinking and driving and child abandonment as a result of the events of February 25, 2010. On this day she left a 22 month old child alone in her home in Granton (located in Lucan-Biddulph) while she drove to Exeter with her two children and a another child (a 3 year old) she was babysitting.

On her way back to the home, after dropping her children off near Exeter she crashed her car and was subsequently charged with drinking and driving. It was only after the arrival of the other school-aged children at her home, who discovered the infant alone in a crib, did the police become aware of the child she had abandoned.

Today, at the Goderich Court House, Michelle Morrision was sentenced to 6 months house arrest and two years probation in addition to $1,500 fine for the drinking and driving charge and was ordered to pay $528 in damages to one of the families. In addition, her driving privileges have been suspended for 18 months. Further details regarding her sentencing and associated restrictions can be obtained from the Goderich Court House.
