(SOUTH HURON, ON) – A lunch hour traffic stop on the Victoria Day Holiday resulted in a drug seizure and an Over 80 arrest for a Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer. At approximately 12:20 p.m. on May 18, 2015 a Huron County OPP officer spotted a Toyota sedan travelling west from Exeter on Thames Road West. The officer followed the motor vehicle a short distance to a private drive located on Dashwood Road. The driver pulled into the laneway and at that point the officer pulled in behind to check on the status of the attached licence plate.
The driver exited the vehicle and spoke with the officer. The officer noted the driver had been drinking alcohol therefore a demand for a roadside test was given to the driver. A roadside screening test was performed which resulted in a fail. The driver was placed under arrest for Driving a Motor Vehicle with Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol. In a subsequent incident to arrest search, police located a quantity of marihuana inside the vehicle.
The driver was transported to the Exeter OPP Detachment for breath tests. He subsequently provided two samples of his breath to a qualified Intoxilizer Technician and both samples registered over the legal limit.
As a result, 45 year old David BURNS from South Huron has been charged with Drive Motor Vehicle – Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol and Possession of a Schedule II Substance – Cannabis Marihuana. He has been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for the Ontario Court of Justice – Exeter on June 25, 2015.
