Drunk Driver Tries Avoiding RIDE In St.Marys Arrested

(ST.MARYS, ON) – On Friday February 05, 2016, shortly after 11:30 p.m. Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were conducting a Reduce Impaired Drivers Everywhere (RIDE) program on Queen Street East near the Independent Grocers store in St.Marys.

While talking to drivers of stopped vehicles at the RIDE program, officers observed a sedan pull out of the row of stopped vehicles. The sedan turned into the Independent Grocers parking driveway and stopped on the parking lot of the closed store. Officers proceeded to the stopped vehicle and spoke to a male who had exited the vehicle. The male displayed signs of impairment and was subsequently arrested. He was transported to the Perth County OPP Detachment in Sebringville where he failed two Intoxilyzer breath tests.

49-year-old John BARRIE of Winnipeg has been charged with the following Criminal Code of Canada offences; “driving while ability impaired by alcohol”, “driving with more than 80mgs of alcohol in 100ml of blood”, and “fail to comply with undertaking”.

He was released from custody and now has a scheduled court appearance for the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford on February 22, 2016, where he will have to answer to the charges.
