Drunk Driver Caught On Hwy 23 – Name Released

(MUNICIPALITY OF WEST PERTH, ON) – On Friday November 11, 2016 shortly before 11:30 p.m., a Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer on patrol along Hwy 23 south of Mitchell conducted a traffic stop on a Dodge Ram pickup truck being operated by a male driver.

The officer detected the odour of an alcoholic beverage on the male drive’s breath. The male was administered a roadside breath test, which he failed. He also failed subsequent Intoxilyzer breath tests at the Perth County OPP Detachment in Sebringville.

Fifty-three-year old Steven WALKOM of the Municipality of West Perth has been charged with “driving with more than 80 mgs of alcohol in blood”, contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. He is scheduled to appear at the Stratford Court of Justice on November 22, 2016 to answer to this charge. He was issued an automatic 90 day driver’s licence suspension and his vehicle has been impounded for seven days.
