Drunk Driver Arrested On Hwy 8 – SIDEY

(PERTH EAST, ON) – On May 23, 2019 at approximately 7:00 p.m., a member of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Highway Safety Division (HSD) was on patrol of Highway 8, east of Stratford and observed a pickup swerving in its lane almost striking another motor vehicle.

The officer conducted a traffic stop and while speaking with the male driver determined that his ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired. The male was arrested and transported to the Sebringville OPP detachment for further testing.

Darren SIDEY, 27-years-old, of Stratford was arrested and charged with;

Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

Driving motor vehicle with liquor readily available

He is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice, Stratford on July 15, 2019 to answer the charges.

The dangers of driving while impaired are well known and pose a significant risk to public safety. The Perth County OPP is urging everyone to plan ahead and arrange for a designated driver or overnight accommodations to avoid a tragedy.
