(MUNICIPALITY OF NORTH PERTH, ON) – On Saturday May 21, 2016, shortly after 1 a.m., a Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer on patrol in Listowel observed a Toyota sedan driving close to a curb. The officer pulled the vehicle over and spoke with the driver.
The officer detected the odour of an alcoholic beverage being emitted from the male driver’s breath. The driver was administered a roadside breath test which he failed. The driver also failed two Intoxilyzer breath tests at the North Perth OPP Detachment in Listowel.
As a result, 52-year-old Laurentiu PAPASTOPOL of the Municipality of North Perth has been charged with “driving with more than 80 mgs of alcohol in blood”, contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. He was released on a Promise to Appear and is scheduled to attend at the Listowel Court of Justice on Wednesday June 08, 2016, to answer to this charge.
He was issued an automatic 90 day driver’s licence suspension and his motor vehicle has been impounded for seven days.
The OPP will continue their patrols and regular RIDE programs in an effort to remove impaired drivers from our roadways.
