Drunk Driver Arrested In Listowel – Name Released

(MUNICIPALITY OF NORTH PERTH, ON) – On Wednesday September 21, 2016, around 3 a.m., a Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer on patrol in Listowel observed a sedan fail to make a proper stop at the intersection of Inkerman St. and Wallace Ave. North.

A traffic stop was conducted and the officer spoke with the male driver. The officer made a determination that the driver had been consuming alcoholic beverages. The driver was taken to the Teviotdale OPP Detachment where he failed two Intoxilyzer breath tests.

As a result of the police investigation, 66-year-old James F HAIGHT of the Municipality of North Perth has been charged with; “driving while ability impaired – motor vehicle (alcohol)”, and “driving with more than 80 mgs of alcohol in blood”, contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

The accused was released from police custody by way of a Promise to Appear (PTA), and is scheduled to answer the charges in the Listowel Criminal Court of Justice on October 19, 2016. He was issued an automatic 90 day driver’s licence suspension and his vehicle has been impounded for seven days.
