(NORTH HURON, ON) – Over 60 marihuana plants have been seized by Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) after they received a call from a citizen reporting suspicious behavior on Friday, June 19, 2015. At 7:39 a.m. Huron OPP were alerted to a suspicious male that just parked his vehicle on Nature Centre Road near Scott Line. The male suspect was observed heading into the bush with a large duffel bag. The alert witness was able to get a description of the vehicle including the licence plate number.
Huron OPP officers immediately started patrolling for the vehicle and within a few minutes officers located and stopped the suspect vehicle, a Ford Crown Victoria, heading northbound on Scott Line. While speaking with the driver and passenger officers observed a bag of fertilizer and gardening tools inside the vehicle. Officers also detected the scent of marihuana coming from the vehicle. A consent search of the vehicle was completed which resulted in officers locating a small amount of marihuana.
The passenger was then placed under arrest for possession of marihuana. During this time, members from the West Region Emergency Response Team (ERT) and a Canine Unit searched the bush area where the suspect had just left. Upon searching the area officers located over 60 freshly planted marihuana plants.
As a result of the find, Huron OPP have charged 33 year old Matthew EASBY from Woodstock with Production of a Schedule II Substance (Cannabis Marihuana) contrary to section 7 (1) of the Controlled Drugs & Substances Act. He has been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for August 20, 2015 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Wingham.
