(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON.) – A vehicle stop recently conducted by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has resulted in the driver being charged with numerous offences.
On March 22, 2014, while on patrol on Highway 7 near Opmar Road, an OPP officer observed a vehicle being operated in an erratic manner. The officer subsequently stopped the vehicle. While the officer was speaking with the driver of the vehicle a partially full can of alcohol was observed.
Further investigation resulted in empty and unopened cans of beer being seized from the vehicle. A small quantity of what is suspected to be cannabis resin was also located in the vehicle.
As the officer continued the investigation it was determined that the driver had been consuming alcohol. As a result of the investigation Joseph SEAMONS, 40 years of age, of Lindsay was arrested and charged with the following offences:
Driving with more than 80mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood, contrary to the Criminal Code
Possession of cannabis resin, over 1 gram, contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
Driving with an open container of alcohol, contrary to the Liquor Licence Act.
The vehicle was towed from the scene and will be impounded for 7 days.
The accused will appear in court, in Lindsay, on April 10, 2014.
