Dresden Multiple Patient Incident

CHATHAM-KENT, ON – November 11, 2014, At approximately 11:30am this morning three Medavie EMS paramedic units and an operational supervisor responded to a call at the corner of Queen and St. George Street in Dresden for a report of multiple patients in medical distress.

Paramedics found a number of students experiencing a variety of symptoms related to an initial syncopal episode (fainting) of a student. In total fifteen patients were assessed and treated by paramedics on scene. Of those, three were transported to hospital for further observation and the remainder was released to a parent or guardian.

A scene assessment at the location of the incident revealed no concerning risks or hazards.

Medavie EMS Ontario would like to thank the assistance of the school vice principal, the Chatham-Kent Police, Chatham-Kent Fire, and the Central Ambulance Communication Centre staff who assisted paramedics with the large number of patients..
