(MUNICIPALITY OF WEST PERTH, ON) On Saturday November 30, 2013 around 8 p.m. Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were dispatched to a two vehicle crash at the intersection of Napier St and Huron Road (Hwy 8) in Mitchell.
Investigation revealed that a Chevrolet Cavalier with three occupants (including a 3 year old child) had stopped in the west bound lane on Huron Road at Napier St. The driver of the Cavalier was waiting for east bound traffic on Huron Road to clear before turning south onto Napier St. A Pontiac Montana van with three occupants was travelling west bound on Huron Road as it came upon the stopped Cavalier. The driver of the Montana van was placing his pizza on the front dash while reaching for his cigarettes when he observed the stopped Cavalier. The Montana van was nearly brought to a stop but still struck the back of the Cavalier.
Due to the low impact of the collision, only one of the Cavalier occupants, a 33 year old female passenger sustained minimal injuries. Both vehicles sustained minor damage. The 18 year old male driver of the Montana van, a Bluewater resident, has been charged with “careless drivingâ€Â.
