(Madoc, ON) – On February 11, 2017 at 5:30 p.m. members of Central Hastings O.P.P responded to a theft in progress call on Highway #62 just south of the Village of Madoc in the Municipality of Centre Hastings. A witness reported observing a man attempting to steal an 18 foot enclosed trailer by removing locks and preparing to hook it up to his vehicle. The suspect fled the scene upon realizing his actions were being watched.
Officers located the man driving his vehicle on Highway # 401 exit ramp at Highway #37 in the City of Belleville. A subsequent investigation revealed the man to also be in possession of a quantity of hydromorphone and Canadian currency. In addition a crossbow was located in his vehicle.
As a result, 58 year old Derrick BUNTIN of Bath, ON was arrested and charged with:
Theft Over $5000
Mischief Under $5000
Driving While Disqualified
Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking- Hydromorphone
Possession of Proceeds Obtained by Crime under $5000
Possession of a Weapon Contrary to Prohibition Order – Crossbow
BUNTIN was held in custody pending a bail hearing on February 12, 2017.
