Death Investigation In Bayfield – SIU Invoke Mandate

(BLUEWATER, ON) – Members of the Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a distraught woman in the waters of Lake Huron at 5:53 p.m. just south of Bayfield.

Police and family members located the female victim in Lake Huron approximately 100’ off the shoreline. Police and family members were unable to rescue the female in the rough waters.

The Canadian Coast Guard, U.S. Coast Guard helicopter and an area Fire Department were activated to search with the rescue. The 32-year-old female was located in the water at 7:20 p.m. and was rushed to an area hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

The OPP has notified the province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) which has invoked its mandate. As a result the OPP will not be able to provide any further information. Any other inquiries should be directed to SIU Communications at (416) 622-2342.
