(PIKANGIKUM FIRST NATION, ON) – On Saturday April 18, 2015 at approximately 9:03am (Central) the Pikangikum Police Service received a report of an overdue person who had left the community on April 17, 2015 to walk the winter road and trails towards Red Lake. At approximately 4:35pm Pikangikum community members reported to police that they had found the body of the missing person near a trail between Pikangikum and Red Lake.
Due to the condition of the body, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) North West Region Crime Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding this death under the direction of Detective Inspector Randy Heida of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB).
The deceased has been identified as Robert PIERROT, 55 years, from Pikangikum. A post mortem examination will take place in Toronto but the date and time has not yet been determined.
The investigation is continuing.
