David Ward Arrested After Search Warrant – Police Warn of Dangerous Seized Drug

A search warrant was executed last evening by members of the Owen Sound Police drug unit, criminal investigation branch and the High Enforcement Action Team (H.E.A.T) and Community Oriented Response and Enforcement (C.O.R.E) units, at a residence in the 1000 Block of 3rd Avenue East.

The timely investigation and subsequent warrant was initiated by the hospitalization of at least three persons for severe symptoms of hallucinations and paranoia over the past 24 hours.

As a result of the search warrant, four male occupants were arrested at the residence.

A small quantity of marihuana, a cross bow and 14 grams of a beige powder substance was seized. The powder substance is believed to be a chemical compound referred to as PVP or bath salts. The substance is a chemical “designer drug”, often packaged and disguised as bath salts. It is believed that it is this substance which has created the recent incidents of paranoia and hallucinations in Owen Sound.

Resident occupant David Ward, 47 yrs was charged with possession of marihuana and possession of a weapon while prohibited. The other three males were releases without charges. The investigation is continuing and further charges may be pending.

Following the search, Owen Sound police encountered a fourth male suffering from similar symptoms of hallucinations and paranoia. The male was transported to hospital where he was treated and released. The male was charged with three counts of Breach of Probation associated to the use of the drug.

The substance was sent for analysis of the chemical compound to determine if the substance contains any drug prohibited by the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

This substance is relatively unfamiliar to the area. The Owen Sound Police is warning the public that this substance is dangerous and is cautioning people not to use or experiment with this drug. Ingesting the substance causes unpredictable symptoms including hallucinations, paranoia, sweating, hypertension and suicidal thoughts. Methods of ingesting include, injection, smoking or orally.
