(HALIBURTON, ON) – On Tuesday September 15, 2015, at approximately 12:00pm an officer with the Haliburton Highlands Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) stopped a vehicle travelling eastbound on County Road 21 in Minden Hills Township, for speeding.
During the investigation the officer determined that the male driver had been consuming alcohol. The driver registered a “fail” on the approved screen device and was arrested and transported to the Haliburton Highlands Detachment for further tests.
Darryl CROWE, 50 years old, of Minden, ON has been charged with:
· Driving with more than 80 mg of alcohol in 100 ml of blood contrary to section 253(1)(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada (CCC)
· Speeding 1-49 km/h over the posted speed limit contrary to section 128 of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA)
The accused also received an automatic 90 day driver’s licence suspension and his motor vehicle has been impounded for seven days. He is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Minden on November 4, 2015.
The Haliburton Highlands OPP is reminding motorists that any amount of alcohol or other drugs can impair one’s ability to drive. If you plan on drinking or consuming drugs, plan to not drive. Instead, arrange for a designated driver, take a taxi, or stay overnight.
