Cyclist Vs Motor Vehicle

(INGERSOLL, ON.) – On May 7, 2015 at approximately 9:00 a.m. Oxford County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a collision at the intersection of Wellington Street and Pine Street in Ingersoll.

The collision occurred between a motor vehicle and a bicycle. The motor vehicle was travelling southbound on Wellington Street when the female driver began turning eastbound on Pine Street and collided with a young cyclist crossing at the intersection.

The male cyclist was transported to the hospital with minor injuries. There was no damage to the vehicle.

As a result of investigation, police have charged the female driver of the automobile, 38 year old Thi WATTS of Ingersoll under the Highway Traffic Act with the following:

Left Turn – fail to afford reasonable opportunity to avoid collision

OPP would like to remind motorists that there are more people and cyclists on the roads. Motorists are asked to slow down and to pay extra attention when travelling near parks and schools. Focusing on driving and avoiding distractions, could be the difference between a close call or a trip to the hospital.
