On Thursday December 4, 2014 at approximately 1630 hrs Barrie Police attended a car and bicycle collision on Maple Ave near Dunlop St.
Witnesses reported the suspect driver had been stopped at a red light at the intersection of Ross Street and Maple Avenue.
When the light turned green the suspect sped off at a high rate of speed and struck the cyclist.
Witnesses also reported to Police the suspect had a open bottle of liquor in his left front pocket.
Police investigated the driver and found he was in an intoxicated condition.
He was arrested for Impaired driving and transported to the Barrie Police Service for a series of breath tests.
The suspect provided samples that were almost twice the legal limit of 80msg/100ml. .
A 44 year old Barrie resident was later released to a December Court date.
