(PENETANGUISHENE, ON) Yesterday afternoon, officers from the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of an animal complaint in the area of McGuire Park.
From the investigation which followed and after consultation with the Animal Control Officer for the Town of Penetanguishene, the OPP have learned that a coyote has been seen in and around the park are over the past couple of weeks. It would appear that this coyote is preying on cats as a number of deceased cat carcases have also been located in the immediate park area.
As a result, the OPP are asking members of the public who reside in the area to be mindful of these sightings and to not leave small household pets unattended. Parents are also being asked to speak with their children and remind them not to approach any animals that are unknown to them and to never approach non-domesticated animals.
