COUNTY OF BRANT OPP OFFICERS CONDUCT SNOWMOBILE PATROLS

(COUNTY OF BRANT, ON) – The County of Brant Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), officers were conducting snowmobile patrols in the County of Brant.

Officers patrolled local trails from Saturday March 1st, 2014 through until Tuesday March 4th, 2014. Brant County officers collectively patrolled approximately 1800 kilometers of marked trails over the four days. They checked more than 140 snow machines, all-terrain vehicles and their operators for compliance to applicable sections under the Criminal Code and a variety of provincial Acts, including the Motorized Snow Vehicles Act, the Off-Road Vehicles Act and the Liquor Licence Act.

Several charges and warnings were issued for failing to have valid trail permits, failing to have insurance and in one case, failing to have a licence plate on an all-terrain vehicle. Officers also spent time proactively providing tips on safe operations and sharing their own enthusiasm for motorized snow vehicles with members of the public that they encountered.
