COUNTERFEIT MONEY

(QUINTE WEST, ON) – On Wednesday September 24th, 2014, between 8:00pm and 9:00pm the Quinte West OPP responded to several calls for counterfeit money. A total of five Sidney Street businesses accepted counterfeit currency in the form of American $50 bills. A total of 28 $50 dollar bills were exchanged at Trenton businesses. The three suspects were described as non-white males, wearing hoodies and jeans, driving a silver vehicle with tinted windows.

The Quinte West OPP would like to remind business operators and cashiers to carefully examine bills. Routinely check the security features of all bills – large and small. This will allow cashiers to intercept counterfeit bills and keep them out of the till. For more tips on detecting counterfeit money visit the Bank of Canada website at bankofcanada.ca.
