(ORILLIA, ON) – The Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received reports from local businesses in which counterfeit US currency was being used to make purchases. The incidents occurred during the month of July 2014.
The Orillia OPP Crime Unit assisted with the investigations. Several witnesses are involved and with their assistance and video evidence, police were able to identify the two people responsible.
A search warrant was executed at the residence where one of the accused lives. Police located and seized additional counterfeit money. The United States (US) currency was in $50.00 and $100.00 denominations.
A man and a woman have been charged with the following offences:
Uttering Counterfeit Money, Possession of Counterfeit Money and Fraud Under $5,000 dollars.
Jordan DENNIS, 27 years of age, from Toronto and Orillia resident- Amanda MCCARTHY, 24 years of age have a court date on September 2nd, 2014.
