It has taken years, but at the 19Jan2016 council meeting the People scored a major victory in the battle for accountability and transparency. In 1 minute and 26 seconds North Huron switched to the free service on the Ontario Ombudsman. Shorty after that victory, during the Public and Press portion of the meeting, the Public put pressure on North Huron council to start digitally recording closed/secret council meetings.
During the regular portion of the meeting our current CAO sharon chambers revealed her complete ignorance about the most important part of her job. She claimed she had no idea the Ombudsman wanted closed meetings digitally recorded. This is after years of the Ombudsman publicly recommending it along with the WFP and the Public constantly requesting this be done in order to bring an end to the Old Boys Club. Clips of the Ombudsman are below for easy access for council and CAO.
Below is a quote from our current CAO, sharon chambers, regarding the recording of closed meetings.
Sharon chambers “Just form the verbiage I have seen, I haven’t seen anything about audio or video recording, but I have seen recorded in terms of keeping detailed notes, so that would bear some further investigation before I could comment.”
