(CARLING TWP ON) – The West Parry Sound Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has growing concerns regarding drivers disobeying traffic control stop signs in construction zones.
On October 2, 2013 at approximately 1 p.m. OPP responded to a 9-1-1 from a traffic control person at a construction zone on Highway 69 in Carling Township (Twp). A pickup truck hauling a boat drove on the left of the Hwy, passing stopped traffic which was stopped at the direction of a traffic control person. The vehicle continued past the traffic control person holding a large red stop sign making his way through the construction zone.
Frank Frith, 79 years of age from Brampton, was charged with the following:
Fail to obey traffic control stop sign, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
Fail to have insurance card, contrary to the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act
Another situation occurred at the same construction zone location in Carling Twp on October 3, 2013. At approximately 8:45 a.m, a car disobeyed a traffic control person’s direction to stop and continued through the construction zone. Police located the vehicle and charged William Scott, 78 years of age from Elliot Lake, with Fail to obey traffic control stop sign, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.
This charge carries a total payable fine of $110 and 3 demerit points.
