COMMON HTA MYTHS

(CLEARVIEW & SPRINGWATER TOWNSHIPS AND WASAGA BEACH, ON.) – Over the next couple of weeks the Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police will be clarifying some common HTA myths with hopes that our roads will be safer for all users.

Myth: If stopped by a Police Officer I have 24 to 48 hours to provide my drivers’ licence to them.

Fact: Section 33(1) of the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario states – “Every driver of a motor vehicle or street car shall carry his or her licence with him or her at all times while he or she is in charge of a motor vehicle or street car and shall surrender the licence for reasonable inspection upon the demand of a police officer or officer appointed for carrying out the provisions of this Act.

Failing to surrender your Drivers’ Licence upon demand of a Police Officer is an offence and carries a $110 fine.
