(HURON EAST, ON) – The male driver that caused yesterday morning’s crash just north of Brucefield is now facing both criminal and traffic charges.
Just before 9:30 a.m. Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers, Huron County Paramedic Services and Brucefield Fire Department responded to a two-vehicle crash located on London Road (Highway 4) approximately one kilometre north of Brucefield.
The police investigation has determined the driver of a Ford F-150 was travelling southbound on London Road when he crossed over the centre line and collided with a northbound sports utility vehicle (SUV). The occupants of both vehicles escaped injuries however there was heavy property damage to both vehicles.
While investigating the collision the investigating officer spoke with the driver of the Ford F-150 and some observations were made that led the officer to arrest the driver for Impaired Driving by Drug. Following his arrest the driver was transported to the Huron OPP Detachment where a Drug Recognition Evaluator (DRE) evaluated the driver, the DRE also formed the opinion the driver was impaired by a drug. Additionally, upon searching the driver police located and seized a quantity of suspected cocaine.
As a result, Cole SHELLY, 24 years of age from Bracebridge has been charged with Impaired Driving by Drug, Possession of a Schedule I Substance (Cocaine) and Fail to Drive in Marked Lane. He has since been released from custody with a court date scheduled for August 14, 2017 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.
