(CLEARVIEW TOWNSHIP, ON.) – On Wednesday, October 9th, 2013, between 7:00 a.m. and 8:15 a.m., members of the Clearview Community Policing Committee assisted by the Huronia West OPP stopped both students and staff members at Stayner Collegiate Institute (S.C.I.) as they arrived to school in their motor vehicles. Each vehicle was stopped and the driver given an information sheet on the importance of wearing a properly fitted seat belt.
For the next two weeks members of the Huronia West OPP monitored seat belt use in the area of SCI and enforced any violations seen.
On Wednesday, October 23rd, 2013, again between 7:00 a.m. and 8:15 a.m., members of the Clearview Community Policing Committee assisted by the Huronia West OPP stopped both students and staff members at S.C.I. as they arrived to school in their motor vehicles. This time we saw a 50% increase in seat belt use by students and staff compared to October 9th, 2013, proving that education and enforcement, when used together causes positive changes in behaviour.
