The Chatham-Kent Police Service currently conducts auctions for seized or found property every year. A live auction is very labour-intensive and requires many support personnel to be present the day of the event. The net revenue from these auctions in 2013 and 2014 were $2177 and $2143 respectively.
In May 2015, the Police Services Board approved the recommendation to move to an online auction managed by an independent firm known as Police Auctions Canada in Toronto. This company is being used by other Police Services across the Province.
Police Auctions Canada will help streamline the process as they will pick up the property in Chatham and list it electronically for sale. They charge a flat fee of 50% on the price of the item (not including tax) and remit a monthly payment to the Police Service. It is estimated that the Chatham-Kent Police Service will save $4000 per year by utilizing the online auction format.
Last week, Police Auctions Canada attended CKPS headquarters and numerous items ready for auction were picked up. Some of the items that will be for sale are:
– gas powered Coleman generator
– 42” LG flat screen TV
– various power and hand tools
– assorted jewelry
– BC Rich guitar
– Digital cameras
– iPad
– several GPS units
– Kitchen Aid power mixer
– numerous bicycles
The property will be posted on their website https://www.policeauctionscanada.com/
The shipping costs and payment options for items will appear in each listing description.
