CHILD AIRLIFTED TO HOSPITAL IN SERIOUS TWO VEHICLE COLLISION

(MIDDLESEX CENTRE, ON) – A two year old boy was airlifted to hospital following a serious collision on Longwoods Road at Carriage Road in the Municipality of Middlesex Centre.

On March 29, 2014 at approximately 10:32 a.m. Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to a serious collision involving a Jeep and a minivan. Police have since learned that a Jeep carrying a mother and two young boys was travelling southbound on Carriage Road. The vehicle proceeded through the intersection when it made contact with a minivan travelling westbound on Longwoods Road. The two year old boy in the Jeep sustained possible life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to a local hospital. The mother and four year old sustained non-life threatening injuries as did the lone male occupant of the minivan.

Middlesex County OPP has Longwoods Road closed at Harris Road and Brigham Road for the safety of all responders. The OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigation (TTCI) team are at the scene to assist with the investigation.

Police expect to have the road closed until approximately 4:30 p.m. Road closure signage has been posted and Middlesex OPP are reminding drivers that it is an offence to drive on a closed road. There are responders in the immediate area focussing on the investigation and it is an extremely dangerous situation when drivers ignore the road closure signage. Police are urging motorists to avoid the area and find an alternate route for the safety of all involved.
