Chatham-Kent OPP Weekend Report

(CHATHAM, ON) Over the weekend, the Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received 37 calls for service in the Municipality of Chatham-Kent.

There were various calls for service consisting of traffic complaints, traffic enforcement, traffic hazards, R.I.D.E., marine and motor vehicle collisions.

On July 23, 2016, around 7:55 a.m., a Chatham-Kent OPP officer was conducting RADAR enforcement on Highway 401 near Scane Road when a fast moving vehicle was observed.

A Pontiac G5 was driving westbound on Highway 401 at an excessive rate of speed. The vehicle was stopped and the female driver, Alecia NICOLAI, 25-years-old from Chatham, ON was charged with Speeding, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

During the traffic stop, the accused tore up and threw the Provincial Offences Notice onto the highway and drove away. As a result, the accused was charged with Litter highway, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

On July 23, 2016, around 11:30 p.m., a Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was on general patrol, on Highway 401 near Victoria Road, when she observed a vehicle committing a traffic violation.

The vehicle was stopped and upon further investigation, the male driver, Marcelo BORRELL-MARTINEZ, 57-years-old of Kansas, USA, was charged with Drive Motor Vehicle with Speed Measuring Warning Device contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

On July 23, 2016, around 3:30 p.m., a Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was on general patrol, on Highway 401 near Kennesseire Road, when she observed a vehicle committing a traffic violation.

The vehicle was stopped and upon further investigation, the male driver, Shane BUTTS, 44-years-old of Oklahoma, USA, was charged with Drive Motor Vehicle with Speed Measuring Warning Device contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) want to remind the public that as the weather starts getting warmer more traffic will be appearing on our roadways. The OPP will actively monitor the “Big 4” driving behaviours; impaired driving, speeding, distracted driving, and seatbelt usage.
