Chatham-Kent OPP Weekend Report

(CHATHAM, ON) Over the weekend, the Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received 27 calls for service in the Municipality of Chatham-Kent. The time frame is from Friday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. until Monday morning at 3:00 a.m.

There were various calls for service consisting of driving complaints, missing person complaint, a fire complaint, domestic/family disputes, stolen vehicle complaint, alarm complaint, and motor vehicle collisions.

On Friday April 15, 2016, around 2:30 p.m., members of the Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to a fire complaint at the eastbound Tilbury Enroute Service Centre.

Upon further investigation, no fire was discovered. However, the building was evacuated, as a precaution, due to a noxious odor. Chatham-Kent Fire Service cleared the building and advised the building was safe for use.

On Friday, April 22, 2016, around 4:30 p.m. a member of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) West Region Highway Enforcement Team stopped a vehicle for a Highway Traffic Act violation.

Upon further investigation, the male driver, Leon MIKE, 26-years-old of Walpole Island First Nation has been charged with drive motor vehicle – no licence, drive motor vehicle – no validation on plate and drive motor vehicle – no currently validated permit contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

On Saturday, April 23, 2016, around 9:30 a.m., a Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was conducting RADAR enforcement on Highway 401 near Comber Side Road when a fast moving vehicle was observed.

A Chrysler 300 was driving westbound on Highway 401 exceeding the posted speed limit of 100 km/hr. The RADAR registered a speed reading of 189 km/hr.

As a result, the male driver, Omar ROSADO-MARTINEZ, 33-year-old from Mexico has been charged with racing a motor vehicle, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act

The driver’s licence has been suspended and the vehicle impounded for a period of seven days, as per statute.

On Saturday, April 23, 2016, around 8:30 p.m., a Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was on general patrol, on Highway 401 near Harwich Road, when she observed a vehicle committing a traffic violation.

The vehicle was stopped and upon further investigation, the female driver, Jessica PFITZNER, 20-years-old from Lagrangeville, NY, was charged with drive motor vehicle with a speed measuring warning device contrary to the highway traffic act.

On Saturday, April 23, 2016, around 9:30 p.m., Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) members were advised of a traffic complaint traveling westbound on Highway 401 near Blacks Road.

The vehicle was located and upon further investigation, it was discovered, the vehicle was reported stolen from Peterborough, ON.

As a result, the male driver, Jesse MOORE, 21-years-old from Peterborough, On has been charged with:

Possession of property obtained by crime, under $5000

Drive while disqualified

Drive while under suspension

The accused was held for a bail hearing.

On Sunday, April 24, 2016, a Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was advised of a motor vehicle collision involving a deer on Highway 401 near Queens Line.

Due to extensive front end damage, the vehicle had to be towed off the highway.

On Sunday, April 24, 2016, around 8:30 p.m., members of Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were advised of an aggressive driver driving westbound on Highway 401 near Furnival Road. It was reported the driver of the vehicle was flashing the headlights and driving at an excessive rate of speed.

The officer set up for RADAR enforcement on Highway 401 near Kent Bridge Road when the fast moving vehicle was observed.

A Mercedes-Benz was driving westbound on Highway 401 exceeding the posted speed limit of 100 km/hr. The RADAR registered a speed reading of 148 km/hr.

The vehicle was stopped and upon further investigation, the male driver, Saif HABEEB, 22-years-old from Windsor, On, was charged with Speeding and drive motor vehicle with a speed measuring warning device contrary to the highway traffic act.

On Sunday, April 24, 2016, members of Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted LIDAR speed enforcement on Highway 401.

As a result, 21 Speed related charges were laid, including a speeding charge on a tractor trailer.

Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) want to remind the public that as the weather starts getting warmer more traffic will be appearing on our roadways. The OPP will actively monitor the “Big 4” driving behaviours; impaired driving, speeding, distracted driving, and seatbelt usage.
