The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 128 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Three people were arrested.

Man Charged with Mischief Endangering Life CK15027506

The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a man in connection with a theft investigation in Chatham.

Around 2:45 a.m. this morning, a CP Rail employee reported that a switch wire had been cut and copper wiring valued at approximately $300 had been stolen. With the switch being damaged, it could cause trains to stop abruptly. Through investigation, police observed a bush directly behind the switch box leading to a wheat field which had a path pushed down to allow someone to enter or exit the area. Officers checked the path and found the man lying on his stomach trying to hide.

Upon being searched incident to arrest, the man was found to be in possession of bolt cutters, three knives and methamphetamine. Officers further learned that he was currently bound by a curfew, condition not to possess weapons or drugs.

The 23-year-old Chatham man has been charged with mischief endangering life, theft under $5000, possession of break-in instruments, trespassing, drug possession and three counts of failing to comply. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Man Charged with Failing to Comply CK15027438

The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a man following a report of an unwanted man at a residence in Chatham.

Yesterday afternoon, a woman contacted police for assistance in removing a man known to her from her property. The man fled prior to police arrival, however was located a short distance away. Through investigation, police learned that the man was wanted for two counts of failing to comply with his release conditions.

The 36-year-old man of no fixed address has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Enforcement in Ridgetown

Last night, officers issued eight (8) tickets for various Liquor License Act infractions as part of a proactive initiative to help reduce complaints from local residents.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service would like to remind students that education through enforcement will continue. Please enjoy the college life, but do so responsibly and with respect for others living in the area.

Motor Vehicle Collision CK15027427

Around 2:00 p.m. yesterday afternoon, emergency crews responded to a two vehicle collision on McNaughton Avenue East near Coverdale Street in Chatham.

Minor injuries were sustained. Total damage was estimated at $1800.

A 24-year-old Chatham woman was charged with failing to yield the right of way.
