Charges Laid In Transport Collision

(NAPANEE, ON)- On Thursday, September 1, 2016 at 7:30 p.m. officers with the Napanee and Quinte West detachments of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to a report of a collision involving two transports on Highway 401 westbound near the On Route, Quinte West.

While enroute to the scene police were notified that one of the driver’s had fled the scene on foot. An OPP Canine Unit was called to search for the driver however he returned to the scene approximately four hours later.

Investigation revealed that one transport rear-ended the other.

The highway was closed and traffic was rerouted as heavy equipment was required to remove large metal coils that spilled from one of the transports.

The highway was re-opened at midnight.

As a result of the investigation 46 year-old Todd SMITH of Burlington has been charged with careless driving and 43 year-old Prabhdeep SANDHU of Brampton has been charged with failing to remain contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. A passenger in one of the transports was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
