(COUNTY OF BRANT, ON) – The County of Brant Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), officers were conducting a RIDE check at Maple Avenue and Concession Road Eight. At approximately 11:29 p.m. on October 10th, 2014 a stolen black Chevrolet pickup truck attempted to evade the police R.I.D.E. check.
Officers activated their emergency equipment in an attempt to stop the suspect vehicle and occupants. The suspect vehicle entered the City of Brantford where it collided with a Mercury Marquis at the intersection of Colborne Street and Gilkison Street.
Ashley LERNO 18 years of age from the City of Brantford, the driver of the Mercury succumbed to her injuries on October 15th, 2014 at a Hamilton Health Science Hospital.
The OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) under the direction of Detective Inspector Dave Hillman has assumed oversight of the parallel police criminal investigation and has charged two men with the following;
Richard GAMBLE 48 years of age from the City of Brantford is facing the following criminal charges
Cause Death by Criminal Negligence
Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle Cause death
Flight Causing Death while Pursued by Peace Officer
Fail to Stop at Scene of Accident Involving Bodily Harm or Death
Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle
Driving while Disqualified
Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000.00
David GREGORY 34 years of age from the City from Brantford is facing the following criminal charge
Possession of Property Obtained by Crime over $5,000.00
Both accused appeared in court today and have been remanded into custody.
