(QUINTE WEST, ON) – On the 11th of January, 2016, at approximately 2:30pm Quinte West OPP and Quinte West Fire Department responded to a call for a possible explosion at 24 Annwood Court in Trenton. When officers arrived on scene it was learned that there was an explosion in the basement of the house and that fire had spread through the building. As a result of the explosion a male was transported to hospital via ambulance with serious injuries while a female was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Resulting from the investigation into the explosion on January 11th, officers from the Quinte West Crime Unit have charged two males. Joshua HILTS, 23 of Trenton and Lucas VELTMAN, 21 of Ameliasburgh have been charged with the following:
Arson – Damage to Property Section 434 of the Criminal Code of Canada
Arson – Disregard for Human Life Section 433(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada
Possession of a Schedule II substance- Cannabis Marihuana – under 30grams Section 4(1) of the Controlled Drug and Substances Act
Produce a Schedule II substance – (cannabis marihuana) Section 7(1) of the Controlled Drug and Substance Act
Both of the males are to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice 15 Bridge Street West, Belleville, on February 25th, 2016.
