(ARNPRIOR, ON) – The Renfrew Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a driver after concluding the investigation into a collision on Highway 17 that closed the highway west of Arnprior for several hours on Monday April 25, 2016.
The investigation into the collision has concluded. Richard GRANT aged 70 of Addington Highlands Township is charged with careless driving. He was issued a summons to appear in Provincial Offences Court in Renfrew on October 21, 2016. Provincial Constable Helen Paterson led the investigation.
OPP officers responded to the collision at 11:42 am. Preliminary investigation showed a black 2010 Jeep Patriot was travelling west bound on Highway 17. Two construction vehicles were parked on the south shoulder of the Highway facing east. The first was a white 2004 Intel 94 with an attached trailer and a hydraulic drill and compressor. The second construction vehicle was a white 2008 Chevrolet Express van. Two construction workers were out working on the shoulder of the highway in the vicinity of the drill. The Jeep crossed the centre line and struck the two workers and both construction vehicles. One worker suffered fatal injuries. He has been identified as William Danniel MILTON 42 of Addington Highlands Township. The other worker suffered serious injuries and was transported by paramedics to hospital. The male driver and female passenger in the Jeep were transported by paramedics to hospital with minor injuries.
