Catlin BARTON Stopped By Spike Belts

On Tuesday October 1 shortly after 9pm OPP officers in Renfrew received a report from a concerned citizen about an erratic driver on Highway 17 east of Renfrew. The vehicle was located travelling westbound at O’Brien Rd. After observing the driver swerving into oncoming traffic officers activated their emergency lights. The vehicle failed to stop and accelerated away. Officers pursued the vehicle westbound until the vehicle stopped after driving over several spike belts and was unable to continue. The spike belts were deployed on Highway 17 west of Greenwood Rd. A male driver and female passenger were arrested. Officers located two sets of stolen licence plates in the vehicle (one set was displayed on the vehicle) and a quantity of marihuana on the male driver. Following the investigation, the female passenger was released unconditionally without charge, while the male identified as Catlin BARTON, 23 of no fixed address was held for a bail hearing charged with: theft under $5000, possession of stolen property, possession of break in tools, flight from police, dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, possession of marihuana, operating a motor vehicle without insurance, using plates not authorized for the vehicle, and failing to stop for police. He appeared in bail court in Pembroke on October 2 where he was remanded into custody until October 8. Provincial Constable Cory Briscoe led the investigation.
