Canoeists Rescued On Crowe Lake

(Havelock-Belmont-Methuen Township, ON) – Members of the Peterborough County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and emergency crews were called to assist two men, who were fishing on Crowe Lake when their canoe overturned, today just before 10:00am.

The canoeists (age 47 and age 68) from Beaverton, ON spent the better part of an hour in the frigid water, before being rescued by Havelock-Belmont-Methuen Fire Services. Both men were transported to Campbellford hospital and were treated for exposure.

At this time of year, police remind area residents that the temperature in area waterways has dropped significantly. Time spent in the water could cause core body temperature to drop and if untreated could lead to hypothermia.

The Ontario Provincial Police is committed to public safety, delivering proactive and innovative policing in partnership with our communities.
