(MIDDLESEX CENTRE, ON) – On October 24, 2016, members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) West Region (WR) Highway Enforcement Team (HET) observed a motor vehicle parked on Jones Road. A traffic stop was conducted and the occupants of the vehicle were observed to be in possession of a controlled substance.
Officers issued a standardized field sobriety test (SFST) demand to the 56-year-old male driver, who failed the test. He was placed under arrest, and transported to a Middlesex County OPP detachment for a drug recognition evaluation (DRE).
As a result of the police investigation, Calogero ARDIZZONE, from Thames Centre, Ontario, has been charged with driving while ability impaired – motor vehicle (drug) and fail to comply with conditions of undertaking given by officer in charge, contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. He was further charged under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) with possession of a schedule II substance – cannabis marihuana – under 30 grams.
The accused is scheduled to answer the charges in a London court on November 25, 2016.
