(Chatham-Kent, ON) On the 21st of October, 2013 at 1:58 p.m. the Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a complaint about a bus driver who was driving and using a handheld communication device while travelling on Highway 401.
Police investigation revealed that one of 58 passengers on a coach bus who was travelling westbound on Highway 401 called police advising that the driver was texting while driving. OPP stopped the bus and confirmed the driver was using a handheld communication device.
Mark NEEB, a 44 year old London, Ontario man, has been charged with Drive – Hand Held Communications Device. He has been issued summons to a Chatham-area court on the 20th of November, 2013.
The OPP has identified distracted driving in its Provincial Traffic Safety Program (PTSP) as one of the four major causes of death and injury on Ontario roads. The “big four†factors are: aggressive driving, lack of occupant restraint, impaired driving and distracted driving.
