(GEORGIAN BAY TOWNSHIP, ON) – On Friday September 25. 2015 at 2:04 p.m. officers from the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) along with Simcoe County Paramedics, Muskoka Ambulance and Georgian Bay Fire attended a bus fire on Highway 400 in Georgian Bay Township.
The 2013 Trentway-Wagar couch bus was southbound on Highway 400 at Crooked Bay Road when the rear passenger tire blew. The bus driver immediately pulled over and evacuated the 43 passengers on the bus. Several attempts were made to extinguish the fire with fire extinguishers but the bus was destroyed.
The bus was carrying 40 kids age 12-16 and three adults at the time of the fire. One student was transported to a local hospital with minor injury. There were no other injuries as a result of the fire. Georgian Bay Fire remains at the scene until the bus remains are safe to be towed.
The investigation is continuing.
