Break and Enter

Occurrence #: BA14002711
Date: Saturday, January 18, 2014 – 4:37pm
Police received an overnight call to a Commerce Park Drive business where the alarm had been activated. When officers arrived they confirmed that an entry had taken place and the suspect fled on foot. As a result, a Canine Unit, Bullet and his handler attended and immediately commenced a track of the suspect.

An exhaustive 8 kilometer track took place where the suspect made numerous attempts to make good his escape by weaving though buildings, fields, crossing Highway 400 and entering the wooded area behind Cedar Links golf course at Mapleview Drive and Huronia Road. The tenacity and perseverance of the suspect and officers took them through 2 waist deep water crossings before the suspect was caught by Bullet and surrendered to the officers.

After a lengthy trek out of the wooded area, the suspect and officers were taken to Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre suffering from exposure. All were released a short time later with no serious injuries.

A bag containing tools used to gain access to the building was later located after being discarded by the suspect during the chase.

A 34 year old Toronto male is being held in custody for a bail hearing on break and enter, theft, possession of break and enter tools and breaching a probation order.
