(NAPANEE, ON) – At approximately 4:15pm, Wednesday, March 19, 2014, protesters departed the CN Rail crossing at Wyman Road in Tyendinaga Township, which began at approximately 9:30pm on Tuesday, March 18, 2014. Wyman Road has re-opened and train service is set to resume.
The OPP, CN Police and the Tyendinaga Police Service worked together to bring a peaceful conclusion to the blockade. Police are continuing to investigate and in the event of criminal activity those responsible will be held accountable.
The role of the OPP is to ensure public safety and to keep the peace. In keeping with the OPP Framework for Police Preparedness for Aboriginal Critical Incident Response, police used a measured approach that respects everyone’s right to peaceful, lawful protest.
