Bicycle Collision

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment investigated a bicycle collision at a Charlotteville West Quarter Line Road, Charlotteville, Norfolk County, Ontario, address.

On Thursday, May 7, 2015 at approximately 9:43 p.m., Norfolk County OPP and Norfolk County Paramedics responded to a Charlotteville West Quarter Line Road for a collision involving 4 bicyclists.

Through investigation it has been determined approximately 10 bicycle operators were travelling on Charlotteville West Quarter Line Road between Charlotteville Road 7 and Charlotteville Road 8 when one of the cyclists wheels left the roadway and touched a portion of the gravel shoulder. This caused the rider to fall causing 3 other cyclists to become involved in the collision.

A 61 year old female, 54 year old male and 58 year old male all of Norfolk County, Ontario were taken to a local area hospital and treated for minor injuries. A 64 year old male of Norwich, Ontario was treated on scene and released.

The OPP is reminding all bicycle operators to obey all traffic laws and to signal all turns and stops. Give adequate warning to cyclists behind you by calling out “stopping” when you intend to stop. All bicycle enthusiast need to keep in mind that a rider who touches a wheel to the wheel of the bike ahead will come down, resulting in severe road rash or more serious injuries.
