Occurrence Type: Fraud arrest

As a result of an ongoing investigation and relating to a previous media release requesting assistance from the public, the Barrie Police Fraud Unit identified a female suspect responsible for a two month spree of credit card fraud spanning from Orillia through Barrie and reaching as far as York Region. The basis of the investigation was stolen credit card data from multiple financial institutions being used to defraud local businesses.

A 50 year old Barrie woman has been arrested and charged with multiple criminal offences relating to usage of fraudulent credit card data and forged identification.

Date: Sunday, May 17, 2015 – 4:52pm

A traffic stop for equipment related offences on the 17th of May, found the 58 year old owner of a pickup truck arrested for over 80mgs of alcohol in his blood. After speaking with the driver, the officer noticed that the male smelled as though he had been drinking alcohol. The driver failed a road side alcohol screening test and was later found to have twice the legal amount of alcohol in his blood. Further investigation determined that just prior to being stopped the driver purchased alcohol at the Anne Street Beer store.. His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded.

Barrie Police arrested a 34yr old woman and a 27yr old male early Monday morning for impaired operation of the same vehicle. An officer on patrol noticed the vehicle driving erratically and turned around to investigate it. When the officer caught up to the car, it appeared that it had been in a small collision and that the driver and front passenger had switched spots. Both had been drinking and were arrested for impaired driving. A breath test determined that the female had in excess of twice the legal amount of alcohol in her blood and the male refused to provide a breath sample. The male was two days away from having his licence returned after prior impaired arrest in February of 2015. The vehicle will be impounded for 45 days and both have a court appearance in June.

Occurrence Type: Mischief to property

Date: Monday, May 18, 2015 – 3:05am

A 30 year old Barrie man was charged with mischief early Monday morning after police observed him urinating on a car in the downtown area. Officers were returning from foot patrol when they found the man standing on the street urinating on the hood of their marked police cruiser. The man was arrested and charged with mischief and will be required to attend court in June.

Date: Friday, May 15, 2015 – 11:37pm

At approximately 11:37 pm on May 15th, 2015 Barrie Police responded to a north end business regarding an alarm. On arrival officers discovered that the suspect(s) were successful in gaining entry, however had fled prior to Police arrival. Investigation revealed that over $10,000 in hair extensions and other products had been stolen. Police are reviewing surveillance video and the investigation is ongoing.

Date: Saturday, May 16, 2015 – 4:00pm

On Saturday the 16th of May at 4:00pm, Barrie Police responded to a report of a freshly stolen car from the Esso gas station at Anne Street and Dunlop Street. While en route, officers located the vehicle and observed the occupants abandon the car and flee on foot. A 47yr old female passenger was arrested immediately. The driver however fled the car without taking his wallet containing his identification with him. The 50yr old Barrie man was located and arrested a short time later. Both were charged with possession of stolen property. The male was further charged with stealing the car and breaching his recognizance as he was not to be in the company of the female. Both were held in custody for a bail hearing the following day.

Date: Saturday, May 16, 2015 – 2:30am

Early Sunday on the 17th of May, a 20yr old Barrie man found himself under arrest after kicking out a large store front window in the downtown area following bar close. The intoxicated male kicked the window several times before it eventually broke. The male stumbled from the area, but was pointed out by witnesses on police arrival. The male was charged with mischief under $5000 and released from custody when sober. It is unknown why the male felt the need to break the window.
