(Elgin County) – Elgin County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and Bayham Fire Services were on scene of a large barn fire reported at 6:39 am on the 14th of March 2014. Approximately eighteen sheep (18) and the family’s pet dog were lost in the barn fire on Calton Line, in the Municipality of Bayham. Bayham Fire Services were on scene battling the blaze until the late morning and Calton Line remained closed until approximately 9:30am.
Investigation has determined that the fire is not suspicious in nature and was caused by heat lamps being utilized in the barn. The Ontario Fire Marshalls Office did not attend. Damages are estimated at $130 000. No other injuries were sustained as a result of the fire.
